Virtual Pharmacy Care in Canada: Questions to Ask Before You Book
Share
Virtual pharmacy care can make some consultations more convenient, but it is not right for every concern. The key is knowing what the service can safely handle and when you need an in-person assessment, laboratory test or urgent care.
Confirm who is providing care
Use a regulated pharmacy and make sure you know how to contact the pharmacist. Ask how the service verifies identity, protects personal information, documents your care and arranges follow-up.
Prepare as you would for an in-person visit
Have your medication list, allergies, health card details where relevant, symptom timeline and the names of any products you are using. A clear camera, private place and accurate information make a virtual conversation safer and more productive.
Know the limits
Some concerns require an in-person assessment or another provider. Do not use virtual care for emergency symptoms such as trouble breathing, chest pain, severe allergic reaction, suspected overdose or serious injury.
Ask about follow-up
Before the appointment ends, confirm what should improve, when to call back and which symptoms mean you should seek a different level of care.
